The Center for Development Economics Studies (CDES) is a non-profit research organisation advancing interdisciplinary knowledge and addressing real-world challenges through rigorous, evidence-based research. CDES brings together scholars, researchers, and practitioners from economics, social sciences, management, commerce, and the applied sciences to bridge the gap between theory and practice. researchers and practitioners from diverse fields, including economics, social sciences, management, commerce, and applied sciences. The organisation focuses on bridging the gap between theory and practice to create meaningful and sustainable impact in society.
Founded in 1983 in Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu, CDES has grown into a multidisciplinary institution with a strong foundation in research and community engagement. Over four decades, its scope has expanded to include agriculture, life sciences, health, and the humanities, supported by a global network of researchers and practitioners committed to knowledge creation and dissemination.
Our work spans independent research, extension programs, academic publishing, and community outreach. We emphasise hands-on training, knowledge sharing, and data-driven evaluation — working closely with educators, institutions, and communities to translate research into measurable, lasting impact.
